Who we are
We are a group of Redwood City residents who want what's best for our community. We are united by our concerns over Cargill and DMB's plans for development on the salt ponds—plans that have serious implications not only for our environment, but also for our economy and the future of our city.
This plan by Cargill and DMB to build on the salt ponds is one of the biggest issues our city is facing right now. Yet some of the most important questions are not being discussed—the enormous traffic impacts, the threat to our precious water supply, and how the project might divert much-needed attention away from revitalizing our downtown.
We organized this group to make sure that our neighbors are aware of these critical issues and to demonstrate to city officials that the community is opposed to developing on the salt ponds. The salt ponds are not only the wrong place for housing and businesses, but development there is incredibly risky—environmentally, financially, and for our quality of life.
This is our community and we want it to prosper for our children and our neighbors. We support responsible growth that respects our community’s vision, as illustrated in the City’s new General Plan that promotes growth downtown, near shops, restaurants, and transit. We don’t want to see our community’s vision undermined by Cargill and DMB’s plan to build on the salt ponds east of 101.
We are not impressed by glitzy ads and promises. We want an honest dialog to guide our community in meeting our future challenges. How will any proposed project to build on the salt ponds really affect us? What risks might we face if it is approved? It is the responsibility of all of us to address these questions honestly. The future of Redwood City is at stake.
We are pleased to have the support of over 450 members of the community who share our concern about the impacts of development on the salt ponds on our environment and quality of life. Below is a partial list. Check back for updates as we grow. Add your name by signing up here.
